As human beings, we are always evaluating ourselves and changing ourselves regularly. with the passing time, meeting new people, gaining maturity and many other aspects, we are always GROWING as an individual. but being social animals, we tend to compare ourselves with other social beings as well. the problem arises here, when we continuously keep evaluating and making ourselves better, looking at others flaws. we look at others and make sure we don't commit that mistake. but we forget to look at ourselves the way we look at them. so, in this process, we become better and better than the people around us. but what about our own flaws, our own setbacks, or rather, what about looking 'within' ourselves?
in this process, after a point, after rigorously practising this evaluating process, we feel, we are above others. but what about being above ones own self?
you are your own competitor, and when you are busy evaluating others and rectifying it in yourself, you forget that!
there is a story about two people. they go in a dark place, after they come out, one of the two peoples face is smudged in charcoal. which person will wash his face?
of course, the one whose face is NOT smudged. that's because, he will look at the opposite persons face and obviously make sure his OWN is clean. while the other person with the smudged face looks at this one and doesn't even realise about the existence of charcoal.
the proverb, 'man is his own competitor' suits here perfectly. it is to be implemented in every individuals life. rather than being ABOVE everyone else, man needs to learn to stand and evaluate himself to make him ABOVE and BETTER than himself with every passing moment of his life...
In the end, remember, its not about being better than everyone else, its being the best version of yourself that counts!
